How To Report Scam Emails & Get The Reply Address Closed Down

At the Sisters of Spam we firmly believe that the best action to take to prevent anyone from being scammed by a scam email is for the reply email address used in the scam to be closed down quickly. If it is closed down by the email provider, then this will immediately prevent anyone from replying and becoming a victim.

Many scammers will continue to send out fresh emails after we close down the first and use a different reply address -  this makes no difference as we close down the next email address just as quickly.

As well as making it harder for the scammer to get any replies, it also gives them more and more work and wastes their time.

If you have received a scam email and want to report the reply address for closure the process is easy:

Open the scam email in your email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail etc then add the headers to the message (this is easy though different for some email software packages - if you need help, just send us an email using the Contact Us window in the menu bar - remember to tell us what email software you use).

Once you've got the original email and added the headers, then you just need to obtain the reporting address to allow you to send it to the email provider. Under the Report It tab you'll find our Reporting Database which is very easy to use. Simply type in the domain that the reply address is using (Yahoo.com, Hotmail.co.uk etc) and the database will provide you with the appropriate reporting email address to forward it to.

If you are reporting Gmail or Yahoo emails from any of their domains, you must use the appropriate Online Reporting Tools: Gmail or Yahoo - forwarding the email to them will not work any longer.

If you have any problems, don't hesitate to email us!
